The clock is winding down and there is no time left to pass the ball. The game is on the line. As you focus on the basket everything else fades away. This is what you play for. Taking a short jump from the ground you push and release the ball.

What happens next depends on how hard you have trained. Practice is everything. Basketball shooting drills yesterday make baskets today.

Here are things to know when in comes to basketball shooting drills. First – every shooting drill needs to start with a warm up. Don’t worry about your lungs. Your shooting practices should focus on aim and release, so you don’t need to worry about your cardiovascular system.

Instead, worry about your hands. To get them warmed up dribble for a little while. Switch hands while dribbling. When you feel like they’re sufficiently warmed up you’re ready to start the drills.

Successful shooting drills will involve more than one basketball. One basketball is not enough. If you have to shoot and retrieve after every shot you will not develop the muscle memory you need. If you only have one ball you will need to borrow more from friends, or practice at a school that has a large number of basketballs. If you cannot obtain more than one basketball for your drills there is still one drill that you can do: the layup drill. Layup drills do not require more than one ball.

If you have a lot of basketballs then you are ready for your drills. Pick a spot on the court to shoot from. You should stand in one spot and shoot all your balls in a row. If at all possible you should practice with a friend who can retrieve the balls for you, so you don’t have to leave your spot. The goal is shoot one hundred straight baskets from one spot.

After you do this choose a different and begin shooting 100 baskets from there. You will build muscles and muscle memory by doing this. Your body will become much better at shooting from these locations during a game.

If you have a friend to help you drill, then you can practice the quick shot. Pick a spot on the court and stand there. Have your friend pass you the ball. Try to shoot the ball as soon as you catch it. This is a quick shot. Once again it will be beneficial to do as many of these in a row, from the same spot, as you can.

Distraction drills are very helpful drills. With these drills you will try shooting while a friend attempts to distract you. This will prepare you for the game. Your friend can either wave their arms in front of you, or try to make loud sounds from the side of you. The better you can focus on the basket, and not on your friend, the better you will shoot during the game.

If you take the time to practice then you will be a better player. Every single player benefits from basketball shooting drills.

Not every NBA player can expect to be honored by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. In fact, only 295 individuals have been chosen as inductees to the hall of fame. The hall is different than other halls of fame. The basketball hall of fame honors people who have played for teams all over the world, and even some who play for non-professional teams.

While they are more open to those they will admit to the NBA hall of fame, the screening process is still intense. First, a person has to receive five votes from the seven people present in the first screening committee. They then move on to another complicated voting process. If they receive 75 percent of the votes during this process they can be inducted.

Being part of the hall of fame of any sport is quite an honor. Many NBA athletes who have shown incredible skill still do not merit the honor of being a hall of famer. This sometimes leads to controversy surrounding that person and the hall of fame. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame is no stranger to this controversy. Some people wonder if the screening procedures used by the hall are fair. Some people wonder why certain great figures in basketball still have not been inducted into the hall of fame.

It is hard to define the NBA Hall of Fame. Is it the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, or is it the people that are honored inside? The answer to this question is found through visiting the hall of fame and gaining an appreciation for what it honors. Then maybe you can decide what a hall of fame is really all about.

About the Building:

Image via Wikipedia

The original NBA hall of fame was much smaller than the one that is used today. It opened on February 17, 1968. The hall was more popular than it had been built to be. On June 30, 1985, a bigger basketball hall of fame was opened. Popularity for the sport continued to increase over the years and soon even the bigger building was not big enough.

In 2002 the new building was officially opened to the public. The newer

building cost 45 million dollars to build and houses 40,000 square feet of basketball stuff. Upon entering the building patrons can see homage to all of the inductees. The building is filled with all kinds of exhibits. There are skill challenge exhibits, live clinics, and shooting challenges. Interactive exhibits aren’t all the building has to offer either. It is packed to the brim with actual basketball artifacts from the ages.

You have to believe you can make the shot for it to go in. Confidence is key in any sport, but especially in basketball.

The key to shooting a basketball is to have good balance. There are several ways to improve your balance.

First, try standing on one foot with your eyes closed. It is a lot harder than it sounds. This is a good way to practice balance because it is immediately difficult. Concentrate on how your body reacts when you close your eyes. As you struggle for balance, try to sense how your body finds it. The better you understand this, the better you will be at doing it. As you increase your balance your shot will get better.

Another important part of shooting is stance. You need to face your body towards the basket. Holding the ball correctly involves holding the ball with one hand, and supporting the ball with the other. Both hands need to do their job for the shot to go in. If you are shooting right, the hand holding the ball will continuously be pointed toward the hoop. Make sure you keep your shooting hand straight. A limp wrist is a missed shot.

You can use the square above the hoop as a point of reference. Some people like shooting at the square. It’s important that you figure out what part of the basket you shoot best at. It’s different for everyone, but

when you find your spot, stick to it.

Remember, your knees play an important role in your shooting. You need to use them to help you push the ball out of your hand.

The shot should be one continuous push that lasts even after the ball has left your hand.

Lastly, shooting a basketball involves muscle memory. Muscle memory takes time and lots of practice. You will need to shoot over and over again before your body will start to change. . If you practice hard you can increase your shooting average.
